Obituary of Joseph Basil “Buddy” McDonald

McDONALD, Joseph Basil 'Buddy' - 79, Mulgrave, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at home. Born in Mulgrave, he was a son of the late James and Blanche (Power) McDonald. He was a retired CNR employee and a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Mulgrave. He was also a member of Cambrai Branch 37 Royal Canadian Legion, Mulgrave, serving as president from 1966-67, vice president, first vice-president, and Sergeant-at-arms. He was a former member of the Mulgrave Volunteer Fire Department and former fire chief, and was a recipient of the 30 year service medal and the exemplary service medal. Surviving are daughters, Donna (Wayne) Steeves, Riverside, N.B.; Shirley (Keith) MacDonald, Lake Echo; Patricia 'Pabby' (Carl) Woodworth, Mulgrave; Carmel (Joey) Benoit, Port Hawkesbury; sons, Bernie, Mulgrave; Jimmy (Claudette), Stewiacke; sisters, Martina (Gerald) Hachette, Antigonish; Patricia Fullerton, Brantford, Ont.; Imelda Benoit, Havre Boucher; Corrine (Robert) Leadbetter, Ridgeway, Ont.; brothers, Neil, Dartmouth; Bert, Comox, B.C.; Ralph 'Vesty' (Eleanor), Thorburn; Bernie, Ottawa; grandchildren, Todd, Tammy, Craig, Crystal, Amie, Holly, Sarah, Jenna, Nicholas, and great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Dixon. He was predeceased by his first wife, Annabelle (Ryan), and second wife, Mary Alice (Andrews). Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Mulgrave & Area Resting Place. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Father Peter McLeod officiating with burial in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Buddy may be made to the Mulgrave & Area Resting Place or Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
