Obituary of Catherine Margaret 'Cassie' MacInnis

MacINNIS, Catherine Margaret 'Cassie' - 88, Port Hawkesbury, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born December 15, 1915, in South Rhodena, Inverness Co., she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Katie (MacDougall) MacMaster. Until her marriage in 1941 to Angus MacInnis, she was a member of Stella Maris Parish, Creignish, and since then, a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Hawkesbury. For the first nine years of her academic education, she attended school in Queensville and then attended St. Therese School in Port Hawkesbury and St. Joseph's Convent, Mabou. She then attended Teacher's College in Truro and taught school for 25 years, enjoying every moment of her teaching career. For four summers, she took summer classes at St. F.X. University. She was an active member of the Home and School Association and of the parish C.W.L., serving in several executive positions on both. She served on the parish council for six years and was a Eucharistic minister for 11 and a half years. Cassie loved her Cape Breton music, dancing and playing cards. Surviving are daughter, Kate (Wayne) MacMillan, Port Hawkesbury; sons, Frank (Mary), Creignish; Blaise, Billy (Elizabeth), Brian, all of Port Hawkesbury; sister, Marion Smyth, Detroit; grandchildren, Robert, Lianna, Neil, Lisa, Ross, Kyle, Allan, Jamie, Moira, Sean, Margaret, Andrew, Donnie, Megan, Andrea; great-grandchildren, Liam, Lauren, Maeve. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Angus MacInnis; sister, Mary MacDonald; brothers, Archie Dan, Malcolm, and Donald R. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer vigil at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, all in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Father Bill Crispo officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only.
