Obituary of Alexis Alfa “Bunny” MacLennan

MacLENNAN, Alexis Alfa 'Bunny' - 71, Melford, Inverness Co., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, early on Friday, December 10, 2004. Bunny was born at home in Big Brook, Inverness Co., on May 14, 1933, to John Archie and Neilena 'Nelly' (MacDonald) Gillis. Bunny was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish, Glendale, the C.W.L., the Bayview Seniors Club, Whycocomagh, the Liberal Party, and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 123, Whycocomagh. She enjoyed her time in the workforce after raising her children, and has many friends across Inverness County as a result. Bunny was a proud mother and grandmother, who enjoyed going to square dances, card games and community events until her illness made it impossible for her to do all she desired, and then the telephone kept her socially active. Her quick wit and dry humor will be missed by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Blair (Crystal), Melford; Lawrence, Newtown; Andrew (Judy), Melford; daughters, Janet (Roger) Clark, Marathon, Ont.; Brenda (Ed) Dunphy, Skye Glen; Jacqueline (Lawrence) Boyd, Glendale; 17 grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Rebecca Morrison, Whycocomagh; Katherine MacPhail, Upper River Denys; along with her many loving and supportive nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Jean; former husband, Neil; brother, Malcolm; sisters, Sadie and Isabel. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 1-6 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
