Obituary of Albert Joseph MacDonald

MacDONALD, Albert Joseph - 86, Melford, Inverness Co., died peacefully in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Born March 10, 1919, on River Denys Mountain to the late John Angus and Sarah (MacDonald) MacDonald, Albert was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish, Glendale. Albert moved down from the Mountain in 1944 and worked the family farm, even keeping horses, up until a few years ago. For a time, Albert was employed with the Department of Highways. Albert was proud of his Scottish ancestry. He enjoyed playing the bagpipes and was devoted to caring for the church on the Mountain, St. Margaret's of Scotland. Even into his 80's, Albert would keep the grounds and the cemetery mowed. He was a good, kind friend to everyone, giving generously of his time and talents. He will be sadly missed and remembered by all those whose lives he touched. Albert is survived by brother, Anselm (Flo), Michigan; sisters-in-law, Christene MacDonald, Coxheath; Marie 'Bell' MacDonald, Ontario; nephews, Eugene, Coxheath; Albert, Ontario; Vincent, Michigan; nieces, Jeanette, Ontario; Mary, River Bourgeois; Irene, Coxheath; Debbie and Gwen, Michigan, as well as all of their families and numerous cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Eugene, Vincent, and Howard; sister-in-law, Peggy; nephews, John Joseph and John Douglas. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial in parish cemetery.
