Obituary of M. Agnes MacInnis

MacINNIS, M. Agnes - 88, Port Hawkesbury, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Port Hawkesbury, she was a daughter of the late Alexander A. and Mary Kate (MacEachern) MacDonald. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Hawkesbury. Her door was always open, never locked. There were so many different visitors, they would drop in whether it was someone passing through, taking the ferry or train, catching the bus, visiting the doctor, shopping or just dropping in to have a cup of tea with Neil and Aggie. The amazing thing was that Mom didn't get all shook up, she just offered them whatever she had on hand. Sometimes it may have been just a biscuit and a good-old chat over tea. She is survived by daughters, Barbara (Joe) LeBlond, Abercrombie; Roberta, Port Hawkesbury; daughter-in-law, Miriam (MacInnis) LeBlanc, Port Hawkesbury; sons, Neil (Lolly), Fredericton, N.B.; John Wayne (Carol Ann), Inverness; grandchildren, Susan, Monique, Paul, Tracey, Aneas, Tammy, Angela, Jeslyn, Ashlee, Jonathan; 10 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Neil H.; sons, Alexander and Leslie; sister, Kaye Langley. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday with a Vigil service at 8:30 p.m., both in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Crispo officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in Aggie's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Cemetery or Port Hawkesbury Food Bank. Mom never closed her eyes until we were safe in bed. It seemed as soon as we stepped inside, she heard the door squeak. She would call us by name and we always replied. We were too young to wonder why Mom worried when her children were alright, and that is why we are confident that when the stars come out tonight, she will be looking down from Heaven to make sure we are alright.
