Obituary of Duncan Archie MacDonald

MacDONALD, Duncan Archie - 72, Port Hastings, died Sunday, September 11, 2005, peacefully surrounded by his loving family in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Long Point, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late James Joseph and Catherine (MacDonald) MacDonald. Duncan was a retired iron worker with 30 years of service with Stora Enso, Point Tupper. Prior to this, he followed the construction field with such companies as Foster Wheeler, Maritime Steel, and Northern Construction. He was a lifetime member of the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, Local No. 972. He enjoyed his hobby of shuttling cars for Midway Motors and meeting new people and was a lover of animals as well as a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Hawkesbury. He served as an usher for many years and was a former member of the Properties Committee in the parish. He was a third degree and life member of Cape Nova Council No. 7924 Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Port Hastings Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Mabel (McNamara); daughters, Cathy (Dana) Burns, Marlene (Danny) MacDougall, both of Port Hastings; sons, Kenneth (Wanda), Petit de Grat; Carmen (Marlene), Sugar Camp; Anthony (Sherry), Port Hastings; Leslie (Lilla), Craigmore; sisters, Margaret MacDonald, Long Point; Florence MacDonald, Detroit, Mich.; Kaye (Ron) MacDonald, Jessie (Campbell) MacDonald, both of Hamilton, Ont.; Mother in law Mary Ellen McNamara, Port Hastings; sisters-in-law, Jenny, Halifax; Viola, Calgary, Alta.; brother, John Alex (Alexina), Long Point; grandchildren, Amie, Crystal (Joèl) Morais, Jenna, Rick, Donavin, Jillian, Katie, Joey, Stephen, Michael; great-granddaughter, Reannah; step great-granddaughter, Taylor. He was predeceased by brothers, Joe and Jim Hector. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, all in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Father Bill Crispo officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please.
