Obituary of Douglas Francis Strachan
STRACHAN, Douglas Francis - Aulds Cove, passed away Monday, September 13 2004, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Aulds Cove, January 29, 1934, he was a son of the late William C. Strachan and Elsie (Riles) Strachan- MacAskill.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Mulgrave. Doug worked on the building of the Canso Causeway from its beginnings to completion. A diesel mechanic, he was later employed with Nova Scotia Tractor, Halifax and with Stora Enso, Point Tupper, until his retirement due to ill health. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing and the time spent at his cottage.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Verna Phelan; son, Phillip, Havre Boucher; sister, Helen Forbes, Lower Sackville; brothers, Charles (Theresa), Moncton; Jim (Mary Lou), Halifax; granddaughter, Meghann; grandson, Patrick; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Joseph, and a son and daughter in infancy.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
Funeral mass on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Father Peter MacLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Doug's memory may be made to Mulgrave and Area Resting Place or a charity of choice.
