Obituary of Bernard Ambrose Power

POWER, Bernard Ambrose - (1905-2004), Mulgrave/Halifax, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on May 5, 2004. Born in Mulgrave, he was a son of the late William and Rose (O'Neill) Power. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a retired employee of Canadian National Railway Corporation and also of Nova Scotia Housing Authority in Mulgrave. He was a very active member of the community serving for many years as a member of the Town Council and the local school board. He was also a member of St. Lawrence Parish and the Holy Name Society. He later moved to Halifax where he was residing at the time of his death. Bernard was a very alert, active and engaging senior who enjoyed the company of family and friends. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, wonderful father and very special grandfather whose kindness, sense of humour, and lively spirit will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Corbett); daughters, Bernadine Miles (Chester), Ernesta (Gerald Smith) and Imelda (Rory Hancey); grandchildren, Bernadette, Catherine and Bernadine Miles, Caitlin, Conor and Corbett Hancey; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 11 siblings; one great-grandchild. Visitation will take place today in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with vigil service at 8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Bill Crispo officiating. Interment in St. Paul's Cemetery, Havre Boucher. Arrangement entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
