Obituary of Christena Kathryn 'Tena' Gaskell
GASKELL, Christena Kathryn 'Tena' - 76, Port Hawkesbury, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.
Born in Port Hawkesbury, she was a daughter of the late Freeman A. and Mary (MacKinnon) Reynolds.
Tena was a member of St. Marks United Church, Port Hawkesbury, Evergreen Senior Citizens Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of Port Hawkesbury Volunteer Fire Department. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43. She was a very active community volunteer serving with Canadian Cancer Society and Red Cross Society.
She is survived by her former husband, John J. Chisholm, Port Hawkesbury, and their children, Judy (Greg) Castle, Craigmore; Julia (Tom) Jewers, Aulds Cove; Jackie (Jim) Greencorn, Frankville; Myrtle (Blaise) Fougere-Chisholm, Dartmouth; Marcella (John) Settino, Etobicoke, Ont.; Iaian Chisholm, Halifax; Stephen (Theresa) Chisholm, Happy Valley, Goose Bay; sisters, Ruth Embree, Sadie (Charlie) Ryan, both of Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Melissa Whalen, Gregory Castle, Alex, Sean and Charlotte Greencorn, Shawn and Joel Settino, Kristen, James and Kathryn Chisholm; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Jean Reynolds and Greta Wendelbo; brothers, John, Arthur and Elmer. Predeceased by husband, Ivor.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Marks United Church, Rev. Wilfred Pelley officiating. Burial in Southbrook Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Tena may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Red Cross Society or charity of your choice.
A special thank you to all her caregivers and staff of the nursing home. Although Tena endured many struggles in her life, she will be remembered for her caring and compassionate heart for all her loved ones.
