Obituary of Pierre Arthur Girroir
GIRROIR, Pierre Arthur - 81, Mulgrave, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2004, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in West Arichat, he was a son of the late Peter A. and Lily (Poirier) Girroir.
He worked in telecommunications with Transport Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard for 33 years, then with the Corps of Commissionaires. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Mulgrave and an avid gardener. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and the Fourth Armour Division Royal Canadian Artillery, having served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a recipient of the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Normandy Medal. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury. Pierre was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, the former Tish Kavanagh; daughters, Dr. Martha (Steven) Cooper, Sylvester, Ga.; Lillian Girroir, Canning; son, Peter, Saskatoon; sister, Amelia (Eric) Samson, West Arichat; granddaughters, Michelle Webster, Centreville, Kings Co.; Jennifer Webster, Banff, Alta. He was predeceased by brothers, Leon and Danny.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today with a Legion service held at 7 p.m. this evening, both in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Father Peter Mac-Leod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations in memory of Pierre may be made to Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, St. Lawrence Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
