Obituary of Vera Reide Grant
GRANT, Vera Reide - 87, Steep Creek, Guysborough Co., passed away on Friday, February 4, 2005, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Born in Steep Creek, she was a daughter of the late Percival and Laura (Kinney) Hayden. Vera was a very active member of the Melford United Church, a past matron of Faith Chapter 54 Order of O.E.S., past commissioner to the United Church General Council, member of Mulgrave and Melford UCW, Inverness-Guysborough Presbytery and Presbyterial, past president of The Seven Communities Volunteer Fire Department and a former Sunday school teacher. She was an accomplished quilter and knitter and remained active working her crafts right up until her recent illness. Vera's family meant the world to her and there was nothing she liked better than having her family around her, especially during her 'hoedowns on the hill'. She is survived by her children, Ed (Genevieve), Blandford; Sadie (Joe) Jamieson, Mulgrave; Percy (Daniel) Fourgere, Frankville; Jimmie (Shirley), Linwood; Lauchie (Celeste), Steep Creek; Berniece (Melvin) Morris, Mulgrave; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; sisters, Georgina 'Jackie' Baillie, Truro; Sally Forbes, Fall River; brothers, Knodell and Owen, both of Steep Creek; Ralph, Sydney Mines; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by husband, Jim; daughter, Laura; grandson, Ernest; granddaughter, Stacy; two grandchildren in infancy; brothers, Courtney, Merrill, Billy in infancy; sister, Betty Swan and infant sister, Irene.
Visitation will be at her home, 19 Grants Lane, Steep Creek, after 2 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Melford United Church, Rev. David Tuck officiating. Donations in memory of Vera may be made to Melford United Church or Canadian Liver Foundation, Halifax Chapter.
